I confess that the headline and subsequent first paragraph made me laugh out loud. The first public hearing held last winter by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission over Oregon LNG’s pipeline proposal was a thoroughly nasty affair, but it doesn’t top what my colleague Nick Christensen at the Hillsboro Argus wrote about in the upcoming weekend edition: Half a dozen armed guards, some with Glocks, patrolling a scoping meeting at Banks High School. Check it out.
A ‘huge misunderstanding’

That is truly frightening to me. Armed guards to “protect” those attending a public hearing can only hinder the exercise of free speech. Very intimidating…. I attended UC Berkeley in the late 60’s. Many times I could not get across campus because of armed guards protecting the campus. If you happened to be at the wrong place, you were maced.
